Director of Programming & Events

NEW LAB is an interdisciplinary space in the Brooklyn Navy Yards designed to support entrepreneurs working in hardware technology. It offers a place and platform for inciting new paradigms in manufacturing and aims to nurture companies that are developing the next evolution of responsible enterprises. New Lab is home to a group of innovators in robotics, nanotechnology, material science, biology, industrial design, and physical computing working together to rethink, redesign, and launch products that enrich lives.

As the DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING AND EVENTS, I managed three launch events, pre-launch community building initiatives, and two exhibitions. In addition, I established a system for hosting a range of events and public programs and manage the buildout of the 3,400 sq. ft. event space. I established relationships with neighboring creatives and businesses, vendors and city partners. I also coordinated the first large corporate event in the space for Hewlett Packard Enterprises, working with Quest and Sub Rosa to execute a lively pitch event.

THE BI-CITY BIENNALE OF URBANISM\ARCHITECTURE; SHENZHEN, CHINA (UABB) is the world’s only biennale dedicated to the themes of urbanism and architecture. Based in Shenzhen, one of China’s first Special Economic Zones, the 2015 biennial explored the reimagining, repurposing, and remaking of our existing urban spaces and built environment through design. UABB 2015 featured contributions from over 80 exhibitors from six continents who are all exploring the theme of “Re-Living The City”.

As the PRODUCER I managed all aspects of the 2015 festival, working with four international curators, the Chinese non-profit responsible for the biennial, Shenzhen city government agencies, and over one hundred international architects, artists, urbanists, researchers, makers, and educators.

The BAISAO TEA ROOM is a mobile and modular tea room designed by Johnny Fogg to create the environment and atmosphere of a Japanese Tea Ceremony in any space.

Since meeting Johnny Fogg in 2012 over a bowl of matcha, we have worked together to find new applications of this ephemeral installation. His tea room and the various activations provide a unique glimpse into an intricate ritual and make the tradition accessible to a broader audience. I have helped to facilitate this project in public parks, cultural institutions, as part of festivals, public markets places, and private events.

THE KIMMEL CENTER is Philadelphia's primary Performing Arts Center. Each spring they host a fundraising event that consists of multiple performances, interactive exhibits, and a meal for their most loyal supporters.

As the PRODUCTION COORDINATOR for their 2013 Gala, I managed an elaborate program that involved three performance groups. The performers roamed through crowded lobby of the Center and the night culminating in a play of shadows in one of the Center's black box theaters.

Producer & Exhibition Curator

BUILDING THE DIGITAL CITY: TECH AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF NEW YORK was a multifaceted tech conference established by James Sanders in conjunction with Columbia University’s GSAPP program.

In 2013, Columbia University’s Center for Urban Real Estate (CURE.) began a major initiative to explore the relationship of tech and the city, looking at New York and other global cities. In November 2013, the Center hosted an all-day multidisciplinary conference gathering figures from tech, VC, planning, real-estate, architecture, and government, and presenting its initial research.

As the PRODUCER & EXHIBITION CURATOR, I handled logistics for the conference, including venue selection, layout and design of the space, and overall project management. In addition, I curated an exhibition that demonstrated a variety of creative and interactive applications of new technologies.

CREATIVE CONSULTANT & PROJECT MANAGER

In 2014, the HOWARD HUGHES CORPORATION enlisted a team of creatives to help transform the SOUTH STREET SEAPORT area's historic upland blocks by bringing together a group of cultural partners to occupy and activate reimagined indoor and outdoor spaces.

While working with James Sanders as a CREATIVE CONSULTANT & PROJECT MANAGER, we conceived of and developed a series of programs, exhibitions, installations, and collaborations to establish a new Culture District for New York City. The goal was to create not only a destination but a true cultural incubator, hosting events and conversations about the future of art, architecture, design, technology and the city itself.

Our partners and collaborators included the AIA Center for Architecture, the Guggenheim, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Eyebeam, Harper Collins, No Longer Empty, and Arup.
